WHAT IS VITAMIN E? WHAT DOES IT DO?
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E, like all other vitamins, is essential for the body to function normally. It is one of the most important fat-soluble vitamins and is stored in the liver.
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and protects the body against both toxic effects and free radicals, resulting in a stronger cell structure. It also protects against cancer and similar diseases by preventing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, popularly called bad cholesterol.
BENEFITS OF VITAMIN E
- It is an important antioxidant. It therefore protects the body against free radicals and helps prevent various types of cancer.
- It is essential for the structure and function of muscles and helps in the formation of red blood cells, and also provides storage of minerals such as vitamin A, vitamin K, iron and selenium in the body.
- It helps to alleviate the symptoms of diseases such as Alzheimer's and also minimizes the damage it causes.
- It regenerates cells, prevents wrinkles, shortens the healing time of wounds, protects against skin cancers and delays aging.
- It helps the formation of healthy, shiny and vibrant hair and is also effective on healthy skin structure and nails.
- It has positive effects on eye diseases such as cataracts as well as on blood pressure, it lowers blood pressure, it is an important vitamin for blood pressure.
- It also has important benefits on the circulatory system.
- It keeps hormones in balance and thus helps to maintain a healthy body weight, prevent fatigue, make you more energetic and, in women, helps to regulate the menstrual cycle.
WHAT DOES AN EXCESS OF VITAMIN E CAUSE?
- Excess has not been shown to have a harmful effect to date. Because they cannot be stored as much as other fat-soluble vitamins.
- In excess, it is excreted in the feces and urine within a few days.
- Very high doses may cause nausea and diarrhea.
- In animal experiments, high doses have been shown to stunt growth, weaken muscles, reduce red blood cell count and slow ossification.
- It has been observed that the immune system is suppressed when the dose exceeds 1200 IU per day in regular Vitamin E users. On the contrary, it provides immune system strengthening effect at low doses.
